From what I have been able to piece together, from the census records, and the marriage record, I don't think he moved there until after he and Laura Pope married, in Franklin County, TN. Also, in the marriage record, he was listed as Richard, but that is definately a mistake. Aunt Sallie Ayers Benson could remember him, and also, in all of the other records he was Robert. He later moved back to Franklin Co., and is buried in the Franklin Cemetery, located on Hwy. 50, accross from the Broadview School. Parents: William H. AYERS and Delana TATE.

I will always remember Granddad waking up early in the
morning to shave. I used to get up and "shave" with him, using my
fingernails to scrape the shaving cream off until they bought my a play razor. Another thing I remember about Granddad is that he always dressed neatly. Even if he was doing yard work, he had on slacks and a button-up shirt. He was usually pretty jovial but could be stern at times, like when he threatened to take a belt to me and Yuri for making too much noise after we were supposed to be asleep. But even if he was a little irritated, it didn't last long. Probably the most important thing I can recall about him now that I'm an adult is that he loved Grandma. I remember him leaning over and kissing her good-bye on his way to work when I was little. He looked at me and said, " I love your Grandma." It is just one little memory but I never forgot it.

William Clayton Ayers
Feb. 16, 1924-Aug 23, 2001
The greatest man I have ever known, was my Dad.
He was born Feb. 16, 1924, in Franklin County., Tennessee
to Clarence and Thelma Gulley Ayers.
He learned about hard work at a young age. When his Dad
became ill, and while he, "Buster" was only a teenager, he went to
work on the family farm, to help his parents, which meant that he
would deny himself a high school education, but through his hard
work, the family farm was saved.
On Dec. 20, 1941, he married the girl of his dreams, his one and
only true love, Ruth Hood. Together, they raised four children,
Floyd, Peggy, Phillip and Mechele.
He became very popular with all the nieces who came to spend the
night and were treated to "Uncle Busters" homemade biscuits, on
Saturday mornings. And on Sunday evenings, he would spend hours
playing dominoes with us kids, as Mom cooked supper. To Peggy and
Phillip, he was our "Pop-ta-doodlie-bop."
Going to town with Dad, was never a 'hurry up and get what you need and
go home' kind of trip, because Dad never went anywhere without finding
someone he knew, to talk to. He knew everyone, it seemed, and he never
met a stranger in his life. He loved people, and was a very respected man.
He was truely a man of great honesty and integrity, a man without guile.
He leaves for his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, a great
leagacy, his good example.
In my last conversation with him, he told me how he had tried to live by
the example, of Our Lord Jesus Christ, and that he did the best he could.
I told him, that I had read one day, that "the greatest gift a man can give his
children, is to love their Mother." He smiled and said, "I always have,
and I always will."
