His mother, Peggy's & my Great-aunt Ethel Hood Moon, grandaughter of James & Rosanah Hood, was said to have been the most beautiful girl in Meigs County around 1910. A photo of the Moon family made in 1928 is posted on this website. Nate is the baby in the picture. One of Nate's favorite stories is about Naomi Judd's mother working as the cook on his riverboat on the Ohio River. She married a member of the crew, and Nate has a picture taken at the wedding of himself with Naomi and Winona Judd, along with Naomi's mother and step-father.

Seems that all I have had to report lately is bad news. Upon returning from a camping trip with my son Ben this afternoon, I heard from Hood cousin Wayne Johnson that Nathaniel Moon (Great-grandson of our common Hood ancestors James and Rosannah Hood) died on Wednesday, April 7, and was buried yesterday at Good Hope in Meigs County. Nathaniel was a retired riverboat captain and was a younger brother of Agatha Moon, who died in February. He was a favorite cousin of my Mother's family because of his friendly and fun loving nature. Once, when he was a teenager, he and one of his buddies ran away from home and wound up at my grandparents house, in Middle Tennessee. The story goes that after his Uncle Jim Hood (my Mother's dad) worked their butts off on the farm for a few days, Nate and his friend developed a new appreciation for home and were happy to accept bus tickets back to Meigs County from my granddad. We will all miss Captain Nate.
